This Week's Program:
The program this week will provide us the opportunity to hear from Sally Abrams from the Jewish Community Relations Council.  She will discuss Israel and the Middle East.  Sally will provide context to Middle East current events and discuss whey peace has been so elusive between Israel and the Palestine.

Last Week's Program:
The meeting began with an invocation by Carol Parish.  The guests were introduced by Dwain Erickson.  Dwain also did the card game which had no winners this week.  Jason Cardwell provided the trivia for the week.

Our guests this week were our speaker, Phil Kerber, and Tim and Jeff from the Maple Grove Club attending to introduce the clubs upcoming fundraiser.  We received contributions from the Maple Grove Club when we visited and this was our opportunity to thank them with our own contributions.  Clubs working together help to make our communities better places.

After President Juetten made announcements, Jim Crenna provided preliminary numbers form the Fundraiser and Steve Beachler discussed the Grant Committee and the need for grant applications.  Peter Bartling then made an announcement thanking Jim Crenna for the work he continues to do for the Fundraiser (Peter gave Jim a gift of Boy Scout popcorn and a bottle of wine) and Norm Okerstrom for the work he continues to do for the Heart Safe Program (Peter gave Norm a gift of Boy Scout popcorn).  Peter then introduced club visioning (see more below).

President Juetten read the riddles: 1) Bookkeeper, 2) Scent, cent and sent, and 3) Balance.  As always, if you would like the actual riddle's you will need to go to the website and look at last weeks bulletin.   www.RotaryPlymouth.org

President Juetten then turned the meeting over to member Brenda Neuenfeldt to introduce speaker Phil Kerber.  Phil has been scuba diving for over 30 years and currently does a lot of diving in Lake Superior looking for shipwrecks.  Once found, he and other divers and crew members, work to document and preserve the wrecks for historical purposes and for future generations to see (yes, you have to dive to see them).  Phil also has been participated in emergency responses for people and vehicles that have gone through the ice.  The time that we have at the meeting only touched on the topic and it was clear that Phil could have talked for hours.

New Members:

Bala Guntipalli:  Bala's business specialty is Software Product Development, Analytics and Software Testing.  He works for Singular Technology Group LLC in Maple Grove.  Bala is married to Tulasi Gummadi and has two children ages 8 and 2.  The October 1, 2015 meeting was Bala's third meeting for Bala.  With no objections Bala is now a member.  Welcome Bala!

Lymari Santana:  Lymari's business specialty is Family Law and Related Cases.  She works for Mack and Santana Law Offices, P.C. in Minneapolis.  Lymari is married to Chris Daeger and has one child age 4 months.  This upcoming meeting will be the third meeting for Lymari.

Please take time to introduce yourselves to Bala and Lymari.

Remember the membership contest - 1 point for bringing a perspective member to a meeting, 5 points if that person joins and 3 points if you get a person to join without coming to a meeting.  Steve Beachler has 12 points, Glen Norton and Steve Juetten each have 1 point.

Fundraiser:
We could not have had a better day for the Parade and fundraiser!  Thank you to all the Rotarians and YES students that helped with the day (I would attempt to name all the Rotarians that I saw, but I would most likely miss someone - I know that we had a large number that attended and helped where they could).  A special thank you though to Eric Blank for the use of his truck, and Diane Moyer, Steve Coley and Carol Parish for their computers.

Jim Crenna will be providing an update in the near future letting us all know the total dollar amount we collected.  Although I have said it a number of times, we all owe Jim Crenna a big gratitude of thanks for all he does for the Fundraiser.

COURAGE KENNY ADAPTIVE SKI PROJECT:
We continue to need members to help Saturday morning October 10th from 9am to Noon at Hyland Ski Area.  This is a great service opportunity for members to get out and help in a "one and done" project.  Volunteers will be replacing the tethers on the sit ski equipment, tightening bolts and giving everything a good wipe down.  Then we will move equipment into the new storage facility.  Courage Kenny will have a directional sign in the parking lot and will provide most of the tools needed.  The Courage Kenny equipment manager will be on site for instructions.  This is also the weekend of the ski swap, and the main chalet will be open with access to restrooms.

When:  Saturday, October 10, 9 a.m. to noon
Where:  Hyland Ski & Snowboard Area, 8800 Chalet Rd, Bloomington, MN 55438
What to Wear:  Closed-toed shoes, work clothes, work gloves
What to Bring:  Water bottle, scrub brush, old rags to wipe down equipment & washing pail (5 fal bucket or similar)

Those interested please contact Steve Beachler at wicket2885@gmail.com

Roadside Cleanup:
The next and final 2015 Roadside Cleanup will be Saturday, October 17.  Please put this on your schedule and plan on attending.  More information to follow in the future.

Rotary Grant Committee:

The Grant Committee is accepting grant applications which will be considered soon.  Plymouth Rotarians must sponsor each application.  First half grants will be awarded in late November or early December.  Second half grants will be awarded in early Spring, 2016.  Please review the Grant Policy and find the Grant Application Form at  http://rotaryplymouth.org/Page/grants .  The number of Grants to be made is dependent on the amount of funds available which will be known soon.  Contact Past President Steve Beachler if you have questions.

Heart Safe Plymouth:  We have trained 3,083 People and counting!

October is Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month!

Please consider helping Norm, Russ, Don and Steve with Heart Safe events.  Contact them or talk to them at meetings to find out when upcoming events are scheduled.  They are doing great work, but can always use help from members.

Club Visioning:

In the near future, President Juetten and Peter Bartling will be reaching out to members to invite them to a three to four hour club visioning session that will be facilitated by District 5950 representatives.  This will be a great opportunity for the club to discuss how we can improve and continue to keep members engaged, engage those members that may not be fully engaged and to attract new members.  This should be a great opportunity and the hope is that most, if not all members, can spare the time to participate.

Secretary - Club Administrator:

Murray Death has decided to resign from the club and the position of Secretary.  Because of this we are looking for someone interested in becoming a member of the Board.  President Juetten and President Elect Knight will be reaching out to members to gage interest.  Certainly, if you have interest please reach out to either to discuss the position.

Quarterly Invoices:

New invoices will be sent via e-mail in the next week.  Please pay as soon as possible.  Thank you.

Youth Exchange News:

Guan-Yu Chen (Albert) is here!  He attended our meeting a few weeks ago and is settling in with his new family.  Jason and Jill  have been extremely effective and instrumental in managing our Youth Exchange program for the Club. Thanks to them for their service!  Jason and Jill are very close to finalizing the second host family and potentially the third host family.

IOCP is Looking for volunteers:

IOCP has an upcoming need for Rotary volunteers.  IOCP is need of Homework Help volunteers who work with kids once a week starting in October and going through the school year (more information coming soon).  If you are interested, please contact Jill Kohler.

General Information:

ClubRunner Member Profiles:  Preview your member profile on the ClubRunner website for accuracy and update any missing data. Contact President Steve Juetten with any questions you may have.  To assist, Dwain Erickson and Diane Moyer can shoot smart phone photographs of members whose photos are missing in the Club Membership roster. Is your photo missing??

Website:  We have gone back to an updated ClubRunner Website.  Please go online and see how it looks.  We are always open to ideas and suggestions.  Just remember that not everything that people suggest is possible and sometimes it will take time to add to the site.  www.RotaryPlymouth.org
