Last Week's Program:
The meeting began with an invocation by Carol Parrish.  The guests were introduced by Dwain Erickson.  Dwain also facilitated the card game which had no winners again this week.  Jason Cardwell provided the trivia for the week (thank you Bob for filling in).

Our guests this week were our speaker, Bill King, past member Ann Dillard and prospective member Meena Chittier (co-worker of Dwain).

President Juetten then made announcements and read the riddles: 1) Breath, 2) A riddle, and 3) "or".  As always, if you would like the actual riddle's you will need to go to the website and look at last weeks bulletin.

Member Jeff Wosje introduced the speaker Bill King from the Twin City Leadership Academy.  TCLA's mission is to "help prepre and memtor new and emerging leaders for one of the most important journeys of their lives - thier leadership journey."  According to its website http://www.twincitiesleadershipacademy.com/approach.html , the approach TCLA uses "stresses three important leadership principles:  1) Character matters, 2) Leadership takes time, and 3) Preparation needs commitment."

Bill provided a handout that introduced three points:

I.  The inner Game of Leadership Skills:
a.  learning how to get the clearest possible picture of your desired outcomes.
b.  learning how to trust our unconscious mind to perform at its best and learn from both successes and failures.
c.  learning to SEE "non-judgmentally"  - that is, to see what is happening rather than merely noticing how well or how badly it is happening.  This overcomes trying to hard.
d.  learning the art of relaxed concentration.

II.  The Leadership Continuum Model:

______> Experience ______>

Self-Development                Reflection

<_____ Intervention <_____

III.  The Code:
To live in a state of constant pursuit of leadership.

New Members:
Bala Guntipalli and Lymari Santana were inducted at this meeting.  Each will be given an opportunity to give a vocational in the near future.

Please take time to introduce yourselves to Bala and Lymari.

Remember the membership contest - 1 point for bringing a perspective member to a meeting, 5 points if that person joins and 3 points if you get a person to join without coming to a meeting.  Steve Beachler has 12 points, Glen Norton, Dwain Erickson and Steve Juetten each have 1 point.

Message from Rotary President K.R. Ravindran
"It is our pleasure to announce Rotary's annual World Polio Day kickoff event on October 23 in New York City.  We'll use this occasion to shine a light on Rotary's leadership in the fight that has brought us This Close to ending polio.  The Livestream event, co-sponsored by UNICEF, will bring together our partners in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, government officials, and global health leaders from nongovernmental organizations and will mobilize more than 30,000 supporters.  July and August brought great milestones in the polio eradication effort.  For the first time in history, Nigeria -- then all of Africa -- marked one year with no new polio cases caused by the wild virus.  We are closer to making good on our promise to end polio forever, but there's still work to be done.  As we protect the progress made in Africa, we focus even more sharply on Afghanistan and Pakistan.  Our World Polio Day kickoff event is our opportunity to update participants around the world on our progress and next steps and inspire them to share their voices, donate, or advocate for eradication as we near the finish line.  We invite you to join us and watch the event live, starting at 18:30 New York time or later -- a recording will be made available.  We also ask you to raise awareness of our polio eradication effort in your own community and build a local audience for our World Polio Day event.  Visit the End Polio Now website to download resources that can help you raise awareness and funds.  Share this information with your Rotary clubs, districts, communities, and elected officials.  Thirty years ago, we told the world what Rotary believes: that we can achieve the eradication of polio.  Our dream is becoming reality.  For every child, on World Polio Day, let's push ahead to the reality of a polio-fee world."  Warm regards.  Rotary International President K.R. Ravindran and Rotary Foundation Chair Ray Klinginsmith

End Polio Now on October 24 - Press Release
The I-35W Bridge over the Mississippi River in Minneapolis and France Avenue in Edina will be lit in shades of red and yellow on October 24 to honor Rotary International's fight to end polio called End Polio Now.

Rotary International and the Rotary Clubs of District 5950 in the Minneapolis area and central Minnesota have been engaged in a 30-year campaign to eradicate polio worldwide.  When Rotary launched its eradication effort in 1985, more than 350,000 children in 125 countries were stricken with polio every year.  Since then, polio cases have dropped by 99% to 359 cases in 2014.  As of the end of September, 44 cases of wild poliovirus had been reported in 2015 in two countries, Afghanistan and Pakistan.  Africa recently marked one year without wild polio.

Polio will be only the second disease after smallpox to be eradicated.  The world is on the threshold of ending polio forever due to the efforts of Rotary and its partners, the World Health Organization, US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and UNICEF.

The Minneapolis City Council has declared October 24 as World Polio Day in Minneapolis.  The I-35W Bridge will be lit in the End Polio Now branding colors of red and yellow that day to bring attention and awareness to the final push for polio eradication.  Lights in the Southtdale area of France Avenue in Edina will also be lit in red and yellow on October 24.

Club Visioning:

In the near future, President Juetten and Peter Bartling will be reaching out to members to invite them to a three to four hour club visioning session that will be facilitated by District 5950 representatives.  This will be a great opportunity for the members to discuss how we can improve and continue to keep members engaged, engage those members that may not be fully engaged and to attract new members.  This should be a great opportunity and the hope is that most, if not all members, can spare the time to participate.

Secretary - Club Administrator:

Murray Death has decided to resign from the club and the position of Secretary.  Because of this we are looking for someone interested in becoming a member of the Board.  President Juetten and President Elect Knight will be reaching out to members to gage interest.  Certainly, if you have interest please reach out to either to discuss the position.

New quarter invoices have been sent out.  Please pay as soon as possible.  Thank you.
