November 5, 2015

Happy Halloween and Welcome to November

This Week's Program:

This week we will hear from Jonathon Reynolds.  Mr. Reynolds graduated from the Air Force Academy and spent time in both Afghanistan and Iraq.

Last Week's Program:

No Meeting this past week.  Please look at what is coming in the next few weeks by going to the Club's website.

Ann Dillard's October 15 Visit:

Ann visited us on October 15 to say hi and to sell holiday flowers (poinsettias, etc.).   She needs help figuring out who has paid.  She sent me an e-mail stating that some of us ordered but did not pay.  Because some of us paid in cash, she cannot determine who has paid and who has not.  Please e-mail Ann at kipconsult@msn.com if you paid in cash or if you still owe her for the flowers you ordered.  Thank you.

Club Visioning:

The Club Visioning session has  been set for Monday, November 16th from 5:15 to no later than 9:00 p.m.  It will be held at the City of Plymouth Public Safety Training room.  Everyone should have received a meeting request.  Please respond either by accepting or declining the meeting notice so that we can make sure the proper number of meals will be ordered.  This will be a great opportunity for the members to discuss how we can improve and continue to keep members engaged, engage those members that may not be fully engaged and to attract new members.  This should be a great opportunity and the hope is that most, if not all members, can spare the time to participate.  A big thank you to Peter Bartling for his work on coordinating this even.

November is Rotary Foundation Month:

This month you will receive information on the Rotary Foundation and ways that you can give back.  Foundation Board member Behm has been talking to Foundation Captains and you should hear from the Captains in the near future.  Further, at the November 19th meeting information will be presented on the Foundation and how you could give and what the money goes to and how we get money back to help us fund local service projects.

Rotary Grant Committee:

The Grant Committee is accepting grant applications which will be considered soon.  Plymouth Rotarians must sponsor each application.  First half grants will be awarded in late November or early December.  Second half grants will be awarded in early Spring, 2016.  Please review the Grant Policy and find the Grant Application Form at  http://rotaryplymouth.org/Page/grants .  The number of Grants to be made is dependent on the amount of funds available which will be known soon.  Contact Past President Steve Beachler if you have questions.

Heart Safe Plymouth:  We have trained 3,167 People and counting!

PLEASE CONSIDER BEING PART OF THE HEART SAFE PROGRAM.

Secretary - Club Administrator:

We are in need of a Secretary.   President Juetten and President Elect Knight will be reaching out to members to gage interest.  Certainly, if you have interest please reach out to either to discuss the position.

Greater Minneapolis IGNITE 2016 Leadership & Innovation Conference:

The Six Rotary Clubs in Area 12 (Plymouth, Wayzata, Lake MTKA/Excelsior, Orono, Excelsior and Mound/West Tonka), under the guidance of Area Assistant Governor Jeff Wosje, are planning a leadership conference and subsequent series for 2016.  The goal is to host a leadership and innovation conference with 300 attendees to serve our local business communities while raising awareness of Rotary.  Currently most people within our communities primarily know about Rotary through our fundraisers, because that is what we promote - golf outings, ball drops, brewfests, etc.  However what we do is so much more than that that.  Rotary is about leadership to solve the issues affecting our communities and our world (i.e. Polio Plus).  By hosting the conference we will position Rotary as more than just a service club, but a group of dedicated business leaders working to improve their leadership and innovation skills while serving the greater community.  The hoped for result is that the exposure will also increase our membership.  This will be aided by the fact we can be promoting our corporate membership at the same time as promoting our conference.  After the initial conference, we would host a free monthly speaker series starting Friday, February 26, 2016.  This series would feature just 1-2 speakers and be held at the Ridgedale Library.  This would give our Rotary clubs continual exposure and offer great training.

The lead person from each club will be the President Elect.  In our case that is Pat Knight.  However, he cannot possibly do it by himself.  Pat and I have agreed to coordinate the location and registration.  Determining the location will be done by Pat and me.   The registration - online, offline (sales within each club), day of event and coordinate of conference packets and name tags - will need a committee of Plymouth members.  Pat will be reaching out to the members to establish the committee within the next week.

New quarter invoices have been sent out.  Please pay as soon as possible.  Thank you.

Youth Exchange News:

Guan-Yu Chen (Albert) is here!  He attended our meeting a few weeks ago and is settling in with his new family and school at Wayzata High School.  Jason and Jill  have been extremely effective and instrumental in managing our Youth Exchange program for the Club. Thanks to them for their service!  Jason and Jill are very close to finalizing the second host family and potentially the third host family.

Riddles

1)  I build bridges of silver and crowns of gold, who am I?

2)  What loses it head in the morning and gets it back at night?

3)  If you break me, I'll stop working; if you can touch me, my work is done.  If you lose me, you must find me with a ring soon after.  What am I?

4)  What doesn't exist but has a name?
