Club Assembly Meeting

CLUB NEWS:

Last Week's Program -  Tom Palm, the Tonka Paparazzi, spoke about his hobby of photographing life on Lake Minnetonka.  He started shooting pictures of boats on the lake and makes them available on a website for people to download,  organized by date.  Tom told some interesting stories about the hobby.  He grew up on the lake, and currently lives on the lake very near his childhood home.  Tom has outfitted a special fishing boat to give him a bird's eye view of boats and people he photographs.

Norm Okerstrom introduced Hope Schroeppel, a visiting Rotarian from Wayzata.  Hope is Branch Manager of Anchor Bank in Wayzata and presented the Club with a $1,000 check in support of our Mass Training Event scheduled for April 14th.  The funds will be used to purchase an AED to be given away at one of the training sessions.  Norm, Russ Carlson, and Don Weber have been soliciting corporate donations to help defray the costs of purchasing four (4) AED's one of which will be given away at each of the training sessions. It is anticipated the winner will donate the AED to a worthy community organization. WE will provide a list of possible candidates they might consider.  Greg Rye of Wayzata Rotary has been assisting with the corporate contacts.

Grandma Pam Oesterreich, Fine Master for March, brought her one-year old grand daughter to see what Rotary is all about. The one-year old brought smiles to everyone.

Carol Parrish, Chair, District Grants Committee, announced she is seeking anyone from our Club who might be interested in serving on her committee in the next Rotary Year 2015-16.  The committee meets about six times each year to review local DDF Grants.  Contact Carol if you are interested.

Rotarian Nick Clementi and his wife Kathy have  invited Club Members and Guests to attend a wine tasting at their home  (4602 104th Ave., Brooklyn Park) at 7:00 PM on April 24th. The wine tasting will features wines from France. Attendees are asked to bring a bottle with French origin, along with a simple appetizer to pair with their wine.  Nick expects over 50 different wines to sample.  No speakers, just people to get together for good conversation, food and wine.  If interested, contact Nick at nclementi@hotmail.com

On Tuesday, March 10th,  Plymouth Mayor Kelli Slavik  (an Honorary Member of Plymouth Rotary) presented a Proclamation  to the City Council and the Public designating Tuesday, April 14th Heart Safe Plymouth - Community CPR and AED Training Day in support of our anticipated mass training event to be held in the Field House Dome at Plymouth Creek Center.  A copy of the Proclamation can be found on our website   www.rotaryplymouth.org.  We hope to train up to 1,000 at this special event.

Heart Safe Plymouth: As of 3/14/2015   2,038 people trained  (and counting!).

REMINDER:  Preview your member profile on the Club website for accuracy and update any missing data. Contact VP Steve Juetten or Secretary/Club Administrator Joe Thompson with any questions you may have.  To assist, Dwain Erickson and Diane Moyer can shoot smart phone photographs of members whose photos are missing in the Club Membership roster.

Plymouth Rotary will offer CPR/AED training as a scheduled event during the conference.  A good turnout from Plymouth Rotarians will be helpful to provide assistance during the training, and the conference generally will be a good use of your time.

A KNOWLEDGE LESSON:

A group of students were asked to list what they thought were the present " Seven Wonders of the World."  Following is the list organized by most votes cast:

(1) Egypt's Great Pyramids;  (2) The Taj Mahal; (3) Grand Canyon; (4) Panama Canal; (5) Empire State Building; (6) Saint Peter's Basilica; (7) China's Great Wall.

One young student had not finished her list, and the teacher asked if the class could help. Here was her list:

(1) To See; (2) To Hear; (3) To Touch; (4) ToTaste; (5) To Feel; (6) To Laugh; (7) To Love.

When read, the room went silent; you could hear a pin drop! Things we overlook as simple, and that we take for granted, are truly wonders!  The most precious things in life cannot be built by hand or bought by men!
