Technology Day

A Review of Rotarian Technology Resources

Everyone Should Know About

Last Week's Program -   Our topic last week was "a Mini Visioning" session.  This was an opportunity for members to give their ideas about projects they like or no longer wish to see the Club pursue, and to propose new projects for consideration in the upcoming 2015-16 Rotary Year.  Sharon Sund proposed two possible projects:  (1) to build and place mini-libraries around the City of Plymouth and (2) collaborate with other area Rotary Clubs to support needy children and familes in our area.  Carol Parrish raised a possible project to support the Adaptive Ski and Snowboarding Program operated by Courage Kenny Institute and Allina Health through the Courage Center in Golden Valley which is available for people  with physical disabilities and visual impairments.
Another number of comments were made for consideration regarding off-site business visits, alternating our meeting schedules, planning more social events, developing more 'one and done' type events in which we could include family members, doing a better job of recruiting new members, encouraging more corporate sponsors to support of activities, better mentoring of new members, and a host of other good observations and comments.
The new Board of Directors, under Steve Juetten's leadership, will consider all the comments and observations as they plan our program of work.

Grant Chair Ricardo presented checks to Michelle Ness representing PRISM for their food pack project, and to Mark Ihrke, Executive Director of Ridgedale YMCA to support underpriveleged children to attend "Y" Summer Camping programs.  Golden Valley Rotary President Jeff Dehler also attended. Golden Valley Rotary collaborated wiht us on the PRISM project.

Heart Safe Plymouth:   We've trained  2,883 people and counting!

REMINDER:  Preview your member profile on the Club website for accuracy and update any missing data. Contact VP Steve Juetten or Secretary/Club Administrator Joe Thompson with any questions you may have.  To assist, Dwain Erickson and Diane Moyer can shoot smart phone photographs of members whose photos are missing in the Club Membership roster. Is your photo missing??

Youth Exchange News - The first Host Family for our inbound student Guan-Yu Chen coming this August from Taiwan has been secured.  Jason Cardwell and Jill Kohler are still seeking two more host families to accomodate his stay with us.  Youth Exchange Officer Jason reports he is fluent in English.     Jason and Jill  have been very effective and instrumental in managing our Youth Exchange program for the Club. Thanks to them for their service!  And please circulate this opportunity to your friends and families in the Wayzata School District.  Anyone who has hosted can relate what a wonderful experience it can be. It would be wonderful if a Plymouth Rotarian would step up to host!

Important Dates/Events:

West Metro Rotaract Club:  The Club held its organizational meeting on April 29th with 18 committed young professionals moving forward with determining meeting dates, electing officers, and establishing a vision for the rejuvenated West Metro Rotaract Club.  Wayzata Rotary is spearheading assistance to get the new Charter issued.  Matt Gerber, District Rotaract Chair, was instrumental in getting this all-important meeting underway and hosted the event.  Watch this weekly bulletin for information updates as they become available.  We are still open to add emails for young people who may be interested in learning nmore about Rotary.

Plymouth Rotarian Sharon Sund  submitted and was awarded a Grant from Plymouth Rotary Club for a Summer Lunch Food Pack at PRISM (see check presentation noted above) , was conducted on Saturday, June 13th, 9:00 am to 12 Noon at the PRISM Headquarters, 730 Florida Ave. So. in Golden Valley. We had an outstanding turnout of Plymouth Rotarians, along with some from Minnetonka, Golden Valley, and Wayzata. Sharon Sund, Peter Bartling, Diane Moyer, Ricardo Ortizcazarin plus his two daughters, Bob Prestifilippo, Jim Crenna, Dwain Ericson, Jason Cardwell, Joe Thompson, Carol Parrish, Jeff Wosje and family, Steve Beachler all participated. ( My apologies if I left anyone out.)

Twins vs Cubs game, June 20th, will be a District 5950 event.  Tickets available on-line. See Steve for details for ordering seats.

Plymouth Rotary Annual Family Picnic will be held Friday, June 26, 2015, at the Parkers Lake Picnic Shelter on the North side of Co.Rd 6.  Time: 5:00 - 7:00 PM. The Club supplies hambugers and hot dogs, condiments and soda;  Club Members supply vegetable dishes, salads and desserts of your choice.  Watch for an event invitation from Steve Juetten and respond so we know how much food to prepare for.  The picnic will replace our Thursday, June 25th meeting.

IOCP will hold The Earl Cup Woodhill Classic on Monday, September 14th at Woodhill Country Club in Orono. 11 am lunch and 12 Noon shotgun start. To reserve your foursome, contact JaneBrattain@aol.com or phone 952-473-9305.

PARAPROSDOKIANS (Defined as figures f speech in which the latter part of a sentence or phrase is surprising or unexpected; frequently used in a humorous situation. For example: 'Where there's a will, I want to be in it.')

- Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

-The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But it's still on my list!

-If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

-We never really grow up; we only learn how to act in public.

- War does not determine who is right - only who is left.

- Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.

-Evening news is where they beginn with 'Good Evening,' and then proceed to tell you why it isn't.
