This Week's Program:
This week we will be meeting off-site at the City of Plymouth Public Safety Department.  We will hear from Public Safety Director Goldstein about the new combined Public Safety Department (Police and Fire) and what that means to Plymouth residents, businesses and visitors.  After his presentation, those interested, will have the opportunity to tour the Department.  An invitation has been sent to all members and friends please let me know if you will be attending.  This is the only way we know how many means to order.  Also, the invitation may say that the event is free, however, Pay-As-You-Go members, friends and guest will need to pay the regular $17 meal price (sorry, I didn't know how to change the invite to say this).

Last Week's Program:
The meeting began with an invocation by Virginia Antony, followed by the card game by Steve Beachler (it was a new deck this week and no one won), and trivia this week was presented by Glen Norton.  Glen's questions were based on 911: how many law enforcement members died (72); how many fire members died (343); how many people are still unidentified (1113); how many days to put out the fire (100); how many total people died (2977): and how many people died at Pearl Harbor (2403).

Our guests this week were our speaker Stephen Yoch, Robert Braun (member of the Apple Valley Club), Bala Guntipalli who has submitted his application for membership, and Liz Mackey (guest of James Williams).

Remember the membership contest - 1 point for bringing a perspective member to a meeting, 5 points if that person joins and 3 points if you get a person to join without coming to a meeting.  Steve Beachler has 12 points, Glen Norton and Steve Juetten each have 1 point.

President Juetten read the riddles: 1) River, 2) Twelve Months, and 3) It Sinks.  Again, if you would like the actual riddle's you will need to go to the website and look at last weeks bulletin.   www.RotaryPlymouth.org

President Juetten then introduced Stephen Yoch.  Steve provided a very energetic discussion on his book Becoming George Washington.  The book is based on the younger more active, more vulnerable, and in Steve's opinion more interesting Washington than the one we have all grown up with.  It was clear by the questions from members, the topic was well received and Steve is very passionate about the topic.  The book is available on Amazon (don't forget Amazon Smile).

Polio Survivors Conference:

District 5950 Rotarians have a unique opportunity to participate with the Courage Kenny Foundation in co-sponsoring their second polio survivors conference, "Life After Polio: Realities and Practicalities," on Friday, October 2 at the Minneapolis Marriott Northwest in Brooklyn Park.  District 5950 Rotarians can volunteer as hosts at this day-long conference and promote Rotary's 30-year effort to eradicate polio.  Volunteers are needed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. to serve in a variety of capacities, but the basic need is for friendly faces and willing hands to assist our friends and neighbors who managed to survive polio but now may live with health challenges.  Tim Mulcrone has made arrangements for Rotarian volunteers to wear knit polo shirts with the RI logo.  If you would be available over lunch hour, lunch will be provided - BUT we need to know what hour you are available and what size shirt you need.  If you can help out in this way, go to:  www.rotary5950.org and follow the link to register.  Contact Carol Parish if you have any questions about details.

Heart Safe Plymouth:  We have trained 3,083 People and counting!

Please consider helping Norm, Russ, Don and Steve with Heart Safe events.  Contact them or talk to them at meetings to find out when upcoming events are scheduled.  They are doing great work, but can always use help from members.

Quarterly Invoices:

Please take the time this week to confirm whether or not you have an outstanding quarterly invoice that needs to be paid.  If you think that you may, please contact Dwain Erickson, Ron Lenz or Steve Juetten to confirm.  It is important that we all take the necessary steps to stay on top of our commitments to the Club.  Thank you.

True to his amazing character, Charlie is reaching out with some words to inspire us to live each day with the perspective born of gratitude.

Gratitude (by Louie Schwarzberg)

Do you think this is just another day in your life? It is not just another day; it is the ONE DAY that is given to you today.

It's given to you, it's a gift. It's the only gift you have right now, and the only appropriate response is gratefulness.

If you do nothing else but to cultivate that response to the great gift that this unique day is; if you learn to respond as if it were the first day of your life, and the very last day, then you will have spent this day very well.

Begin by opening your eyes and be surprised that you have eyes you can open, that incredible array of colors that is constantly offered to us for pure enjoyment. Look at the sky.  We so rarely look at the sky.  We so rarely note how different it is from moment to moment with clouds coming and going.

We just think of the weather and even of the weather we don't think of all the many nuances of weather. We just think of good weather and bad weather.

This day right now has unique weather, maybe a kind that will never come again in exactly in that form.  The formation of thee clouds in the sky will never be the same as it is right now.  Open your eyes, look at that.

Look at the faces of the people that you meet. Each one has an incredible story behind their face, a story that you could never fully fathom, not only their own story, but the stories of their ancestors.  We all go back so far.

And, in this present moment on this day, all the people you meet, all that life from generations and from so many places all over the world, flows together and meets you here like life-giving water, if you only open your and drink.  Open your heart to the incredible gifts that civilization gives to us.

You flip a switch and there is electric light.  You turn a faucet and there is warm water and cold water and drinkable water. It is a gift that illions and millions in the world will never experience. These are just a few of an enormous number of gifts to which you can open your heart.

Open your heart to all these blessings and let them flow through yo,u that everyone whom you will meet on this day will be blessed by you, just by your eyes, by your smile, just by your presence.

Let the gratefulness overflow into blessing all around you, and then it will really be a good day!!

Thank you Charlie. May the blessings of healing and peace be with you.

Is your photo missing??

Youth Exchange News:

Guan-Yu Chen (Albert) is here!  He attended our meeting two weeks ago and is settling in with his new family.  Jason and Jill  have been extremely effective and instrumental in managing our Youth Exchange program for the Club. Thanks to them for their service!  And please circulate this hosting opportunity to your friends and families in the Wayzata School District.  We continue to look for host families for Albert.  Anyone who has hosted in the past can relate what a wonderful experience it can be. It would be wonderful if a Plymouth Rotarian would step up to host!

IOCP has an upcoming need for Rotary volunteers.  IOCP is need of Homework Help volunteers who work with kids once a week starting in October and going through the school year (more information coming soon).  If you are interested, please contact Jill Kohler.
