July 16, 2015 Meeting

This Week's Program:
This week we have the great opportunity to listen to Sandhya Gupta.  She is a Bloomington Rotary who will talk about her experiences running a science and technology training program in India.  Below is a 3 1/2 minute video on the program.

Last Week's Program:
The meeting began with a thoughtful invocation by Peter Bartling followed by introductions by Ben Rischall, the card game by Bob Wittman and Plymouth volunteer trivia by Diane Moyer.  Then President Juetten made announcements starting with answers to the riddles: 1) Echo; 2) Dozens; and 3) Are you asleep?  The club received two thank you letters from the YMCA (Executive Director Ihrke and Mission Advancement Vice President Givens for the $1,500 grant provided by the Club Foundation.  We also received a letter from PRISM thanking the Club for the $10,800 multi-club and District grant and to the Club members that attended the Saturday event.  Following announcements, Past President Steve Beachler and Handsome Bob presented a $1,000 grant to Plymouth Public Safety Director Goldstein and Police Department representative Jim Long for the Shop with the Cop program.  While still at the podium, Steve Beachler presented Public Safety Director Goldstein with his Paul Harris Fellow community member award for his great service to the Plymouth community.  Past Foundation Director Don Weber then presented Woody Jewett with a Paul Harris Fellow for his work as a Foundation Captain.

Jason Cardwell then had the privilege of introducing Stephanie and Allison, two of the four out bound exchange students that are being sponsored by the Plymouth and Wayzata clubs.  Stephanie and Allison each made informative presentations about where they will be studying, why they chose to be exchange students and what they enjoy doing in Minnesota.  The other two exchange students made similar presentations to the Wayzata club.  It was also mentioned that past exchange student Felipe will be visiting Minnesota July 18th - July 28th with his sister and a friend and the hope is that they can visit us for lunch when they are here.

President Juetten gave a vocational introducing himself to the members.  He followed this by introducing the Board and again expressing the need to find a Vice President/President Elect (see information below).   President Juetten then spent the remainder of the meeting presenting his club goals for the 2015-2016 Rotary Year.  His goals are:  "Mini Strategic Plan - Business Plan; Financial; Heart Safe; Fundraiser; Increase the Clubs Presence in the Community; Service Projects; Membership; and Dynamic Meetings (see information on Meetings Survey below).  President Juetten expanded on Membership by outlining a contest for the current members as a way to attract new members.  A member that brings a prospective member to a meeting will receive 1 point.  If that person becomes a member the sponsoring member will receive 5 points.  Finally, if a member sponsors a new member that doesn't first attend a meeting they will receive 3 points.  At the end of the Rotary year, the member with the most points will receive a gift from the club (yet to be determined).

President Juetten ended the meeting with the breakout of the Grand PoohBah hat.

Vice President/President Elect Request: Over the next several weeks I, along with the Board and Past Presidents, will be re out to a number of you to gauge your interest in becoming the Vice President/President Elect.  Please spend some time thinking about the possibility and contact me if you have questions and interest.  With the quality and experience of the current board and the number of engaged past presidents, there is no time like this year to start your Rotary leadership.

Meeting Survey:
Crowne Plaza has come to the Club asking for an increase in the cost for a Thursday lunch that would increase the cost to a member to $21.  Because of this the information presented during the mini visioning session in July, a survey was distributed to the members in attendance (the survey will be e-mailed to all members soon).  The survey asked three questions: 1) Number of Thursday meetings per month (all or some lesser number); 2) Time of Meeting (lunch or breakfast; and 3) Location (stay at Crowne Plaza or look for a new location).  The answers are asked to be returned by July 23 so they can be tabulated and decisions made on how to move forward.

Heart Safe Plymouth:  We have trained over 2,851 People and counting!

ClubRunner Member Profiles:

Preview your member profile on the ClubRunner website for accuracy and update any missing data. Contact President Steve Juetten or the Secretary/Club Administrator Murray Death with any questions you may have.  To assist, Dwain Erickson and Diane Moyer can shoot smart phone photographs of members whose photos are missing in the Club Membership roster. Is your photo missing??

Incoming Youth Exchange News:

The first Host Family for our inbound student Guan-Yu Chen coming this August from Taiwan has been secured.  Jason Cardwell and Jill Kohler are still seeking two more host families to accommodate his year with us.  Youth Exchange Officer Jason reports our incoming student is fluent in English.  Jason and Jill  have been extremely effective and instrumental in managing our Youth Exchange program for the Club. Thanks to them for their service!  And please circulate this hosting opportunity to your friends and families in the Wayzata School District.  Anyone who has hosted in the past can relate what a wonderful experience it can be. It would be wonderful if a Plymouth Rotarian would step up to host!

Riddles/Questions

Alone I am 24th, with a friend I am 20.  Another friend I am unclean.  What am I?

The person who makes it has no need for it. The person who purchases it does not use it. The person who does use it does not know they are.  What is it?

What is the worlds most debatable question?
