Alana Erickson

Former Exchange Student to Brazil

(Hosted by Steve Juetten)

CLUB NEWS:

Last Week's Program -   Dr. Phil Ecker, MD, a Plymouth Dermatologist operating as Minnesota Dermatology, presented an interesting program on  a number of familiar skin diseases we all deal with in the Summer.  Ecker was educated at Stanford University and Mayo Clinic and belongs to all the important professional societies.  He outlined several types of skin problems and how treatment of these problems should be dealt with by each of us.  Preparedness is the by-word - use SPF 30 or higher to guard against skin cancers from the sun, and see your dermatologist annually to be sure nothing is suspicious.

Heart Safe Plymouth:   We've trained  2,554 people and counting!

REMINDER:  Preview your member profile on the Club website for accuracy and update any missing data. Contact VP Steve Juetten or Secretary/Club Administrator Joe Thompson with any questions you may have.  To assist, Dwain Erickson and Diane Moyer can shoot smart phone photographs of members whose photos are missing in the Club Membership roster.

Youth Exchange News: We are now seeking host families for our inbound student Guan-Yu Chen coming this August from Taiwan. He is fluent in English. Host families must live in the Wayzata School District. Youth Exchange Officer Jason Cardwell explains we are seeking three families to be selected  by the end of May.  Jason and Jill Kohler will again be involved this year.  Please circulate this opportunity to your friends and families in the Wayzata School District.  See Jason and Jill for more information.

Our current student, Karen Villamizar, will be returning to Columbia by late May to be present for her college entrance exams.  She will miss the East Coast Trip with all the District 5950 Exchange Students.  We hope Karen will make a short presentation to the Club to highlight her year in Minnesota. We would encourage Plymouth Rotarians to entertain her with an outing or dinner before she departs.

Area 12 President's met on May 1st at Hazelwood Grille in Excelsior, hosted by ADG Jeff Wosje.  DG Jim Nelson, DGE Tim Murphy attended along with representatives of Excelsior Noon, Orono, Mound-Westonka, Wayzata, and Plymouth.  Many new initiatives were discussed, such as resurrection of the Area 12 luncheon meeting for all Area 12 Clubs to get together.  The Leadership Conference held by Mound-Westonka may become a model for an Area 12 Membership effort in the future, with possible sponsorship by all Area 12 Clubs.  Jeff distributed statistics on Area 12 membership and Foundation giving. Discussion was held on the Collaborative International Project (Wayzata) and the Joint Area 12 Community Project. Jeff was lifted up as a "premier Assistant District Governor" to highlight the good work he has been doing with our Area 12 meetings.
