This Week's Program:
The program this week will provide us the opportunity to hear from Phil Kerber who is a scuba diver that dives for preserving historical shipwrecks.  Mr. Kerber will be introduced by Brenda

Last Week's Program:
The meeting began with an invocation by Virginia Antony.  Because we were visiting the Plymouth Public Safety Department we did not have the card game or trivia.

Our guests this week were our speaker, Honorary member Chief Goldstein, Plymouth Police representative Jim Long, past member Gretchen Blank and Harold Lance.

Remember the membership contest - 1 point for bringing a perspective member to a meeting, 5 points if that person joins and 3 points if you get a person to join without coming to a meeting.  Steve Beachler has 12 points, Glen Norton and Steve Juetten each have 1 point.

After President Juetten made announcements and Jim Crenna provided last minute details for the Fundraiser, Norm Okerstrom presented Chief Goldstein with an AED donated by one of the AED winners at the April community training.  The AED will be located at the Plymouth Creek Center in the lower level as people enter the Dome.

President Juetten read the riddles: 1) Short, 2) Johnny, and 3) Snowman.  Again, if you would like the actual riddle's you will need to go to the website and look at last weeks bulletin.   www.RotaryPlymouth.org

President Juetten then introduced Chief Goldstein.   The Chief provided an excellent overview of the Plymouth Police Department and how the department continues to change to keep up with the increasing population, changing demographics, increasing technology advances and the recent change to a Public Safety Department which combines Police and Fire.  After Chief Goldstein's presentation the Chief and Jim Long provided tours of the department (Deputy Chief Plekkenpol completed Chief Goldstein's tour when he needed to leave for an interview).

Please take time to introduce yourselves to Bala and Lymari.

Fundraiser:
We could not have had a better day for the Parade and fundraiser!  Thank you to all the Rotarians and YES students that helped with the day (I would attempt to name all the Rotarians that I saw, but I would most likely miss someone - I know that we had a large number that attended and helped where they could).  A special thank you though to Eric Blank for the use of his truck, and Diane Moyer, Steve Coley and Carol Parish for their computers.

Jim Crenna will be providing an update in the near future letting us all know the total dollar amount we collected.  Although I have said it a number of times, we all owe Jim Crenna a big gratitude of thanks for all he does for the Fundraiser.

Polio Survivors Conference:

District 5950 Rotarians have a unique opportunity to participate with the Courage Kenny Foundation in co-sponsoring their second polio survivors conference, "Life After Polio: Realities and Practicalities," on Friday, October 2 at the Minneapolis Marriott Northwest in Brooklyn Park.  District 5950 Rotarians can volunteer as hosts at this day-long conference and promote Rotary's 30-year effort to eradicate polio.  Volunteers are needed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. to serve in a variety of capacities, but the basic need is for friendly faces and willing hands to assist our friends and neighbors who managed to survive polio but now may live with health challenges.  Tim Mulcrone has made arrangements for Rotarian volunteers to wear knit polo shirts with the RI logo.  If you would be available over lunch hour, lunch will be provided - BUT we need to know what hour you are available and what size shirt you need.  If you can help out in this way, go to:  www.rotary5950.org and follow the link to register.  Contact Carol Parish if you have any questions about details.

COURAGE KENNY ADAPTIVE SKI PROJECT:
We continue to need members to help Saturday morning October 10th from 9am to Noon at Hyland Ski Area.  This is a great service opportunity for members to get out and help in a "one and done" project.  Volunteers will be replacing the tethers on the sit ski equipment, tightening bolts and giving everything a good wipe down.  Then we will move equipment into the new storage facility.  Courage Kenny will have a directional sign in the parking lot and will provide most of the tools needed.  The Courage Kenny equipment manager will be on site for instructions.  This is also the weekend of the ski swap, and the main chalet will be open with access to restrooms.

When:  Saturday, October 10, 9 a.m. to noon
Where:  Hyland Ski & Snowboard Area, 8800 Chalet Rd, Bloomington, MN 55438
What to Wear:  Closed-toed shoes, work clothes, work gloves
What to Bring:  Water bottle, scrub brush, old rags to wipe down equipment & washing pail (5 fal bucket or similar)

Those interested please contact Steve Beachler at wicket2885@gmail.com

Heart Safe Plymouth:  We have trained 3,083 People and counting!

October is Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month!

Please consider helping Norm, Russ, Don and Steve with Heart Safe events.  Contact them or talk to them at meetings to find out when upcoming events are scheduled.  They are doing great work, but can always use help from members.

Rotary Grant Committee:

The Grant Committee is accepting grant applications which will be considered soon.  Plymouth Rotarians must sponsor each application.  First half grants will be awarded in late November or early December.  Second half grants will be awarded in early Spring, 2016.  Please review the Grant Policy and find the Grant Application Form at  http://rotaryplymouth.org/Page/grants .  The number of Grants to be made is dependent on the amount of funds available which will be known soon.  Contact Past President Steve Beachler if you have questions.

Quarterly Invoices:

New invoices will be sent via e-mail in the next week.  Please pay as soon as possible.  Thank you.

District Fall Training:

Members Wosje, Weber, Okerstrom, Bartling and Juetten attended the District 5950 training on September 25th.  The meeting started with District overview by District Governor Murphy discussing membership and giving (much of what we heard when he visited the club in late August).  Then the attendees "speed dated" learning about possible club opportunities for service (Norm and Don were one of the stops where they discussed the Heart Safe program).  Then the attendees participated in breakout sessions on Social Media & Your Rotary Story, The Fabulous "4" of Fund Raising and Recruitment + Engagement = Retention.  Some of what was taken away will be discussed with the club in the near future - Visioning may be one of those items.....

ClubRunner Member Profiles:

Preview your member profile on the ClubRunner website for accuracy and update any missing data. Contact President Steve Juetten or the Secretary/Club Administrator Murray Death with any questions you may have.  To assist, Dwain Erickson and Diane Moyer can shoot smart phone photographs of members whose photos are missing in the Club Membership roster. Is your photo missing??

Youth Exchange News:

Guan-Yu Chen (Albert) is here!  He attended our meeting a few weeks ago and is settling in with his new family.  Jason and Jill  have been extremely effective and instrumental in managing our Youth Exchange program for the Club. Thanks to them for their service!  Jason and Jill are very close to finalizing the second host family and potentially the third host family.

Riddles/Questions

1)  If it's information you seek, come and see me.  If it's pairs of letters you need, I have consecutively three.  Who am I?

2)  Smell me, buy me, and deliver me.  I won't change.  What am I?

3)  A natural state, I'm sought by all.  Go without me, and you shall fall.  You do me when you spend,  and use me when you eat to no end.  What am I?
