CLUB NEWS:

Last Week's Program -   Dr. Abul Sharah, a Bloomington, MN Rotarian, gave us an overview of work he is doing in his homeland in Northern India at Uttar Pradesh. Dr. Sharah was fortunate to receive an education in India which led to a Masters in mechanical engineering from the University of Tokyo, Japan and then a PhD in engineering physics from Carleton University in Canada. He immigrated to the United States in 1972 and began a 27-year career with several well-known companies, including Honeywell, Inc.,  MTS Systems Corp., abd Tectonics Research.  His job allowed extensive world-wide travel. He was able to visit and spend time with Sister Teresa, and revisited the area where he was born.  Motivated by the need to "give back," Dr. Sharah took early retirement and established the International Village Clinic in Uttar Pradesh India.  He receives financial support from several sources, including some Rotary grants, foundations, churches and individuals.  He has been able to build a small hospital and clinic  which support nearly 40,000 people.  Dr. Sharah, a very humble man, spends about 6 month per year in India supporting his International Village Clinic. They stress education for his Preventation Program and his Medical Program.

Youth Exchange News - The first Host Family for our inbound student Guan-Yu Chen coming this August from Taiwan has been secured.  Jason Cardwell and Jill Kohler are still seeking two more host families to accomodate his stay with us.  Youth Exchange Officer Jason reports he is fluent in English.     Jason and Jill  have been effective and instrumental in managing our Youth Exchange program in the Club. Thank them for their service!  And please circulate this opportunity to your friends and families in the Wayzata School District.  Anyone who has hosted can relate what a wonderful experience it can be. It would be wonderful if a Plymouth Rotarian would step up to host!

Important Dates/Events:

West Metro Rotaract Club:  The Club held its organizational meeting on April 29th with 18 committed young professionals moving forward with determining meeting dates, electing officers, and establishing a vision for the rejuvenated West Metro Rotaract Club.  Wayzata Rotary is spearheading assistance to get the new Charter issued.  Matt Gerber, District Rotaract Chair, was instrumental in getting this all-important meeting underway and hosted the event.  Watch this weekly bulletin for information updates as they become available.  We are still open to add emails for young people who may be interested.

Today - June 11, 2015  Our meeting today will be dedicated to a "mini-visioning" to explore areas where members may want the Club to explore new service opportunities, or eliminate projects they would like to replace.  Your thoughts are important and will help guide President-Elect Juetten and his new Board in planning the 2015-16 program year which begins July 1st.
