BEYOND THE HEADLINES ‐The good news, the bad news and the risk. New media frequently report the results of patent litigation actions. In some circumstances the patent owner is awarded a huge multi‐million damage award while in other circumstances the patent owner receives nothing. Ms. Kvale will talk about the multi‐million damage awards as well as the losses. Specifically her talk will focus on the recent patent decisions involving the recreational products industry. As illustrated by the recreational products patent decisions, an important question to ask before going to court is how strong is the patent and is it worth the expense to enforce or risk to ignore? |

Dirk DeYoung is the editor of the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal, the Twin Cities’ premiere source of breaking local business news online every day, including morning and afternoon email editions, and deep business analysis and information in print weekly.
DeYoung joined the Business Journal in 1995 and has been editor since 1999. He’s also been a managing editor, reporter and research director at the newspaper. Prior to that, he was a reporter for daily newspapers in Mason City, Iowa, and Fergus Falls, Minnesota. He has a B.A. in journalism from the University of Minnesota and lives in Minneapolis with his wife, Sarah, and son. They also have a daughter who’s in her first year at Colorado College. |
