Fellow Rotarians,

Thank you for participating in Rotary.  We are fortunate that we can connect virtually and have had some great speakers recently.  Thank you to Kevin Remde for coordinating.  Maple Grove, Golden Valley, Minnetonka and Hopkins clubs are utilizing the same virtual gathering format.  We are considering an outdoor gathering before the end of the year and will update.

Below are a couple of updates for our club:
  • Our fall fundraiser committee is meeting tomorrow, Thursday 7/30 at noon.  Contact Mary to participate: dynamicasllc@gmail.com
  • Our District is presenting Racial Equity courses starting Thursday, July 30th virtually.  There are three sessions.  Click here for details.
  • Material from past Rotary fundraising is a Rotary project.  See Steve's note below
  • Our club's bylaws and constitution have been updated and needs your vote.  VOTING steps below
  • Donating blood saves lives and we can host a drive.  Carol is coordinating and can be reached at: cjparrish1029@msn.com

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL MEMBERS (VOTE is required)

It became necessary to update our legal documents to conform to our current operating activities, such a Co-Presidents, etc.  Rotary International has also added a number of changes over the years for which we needed to get into compliance.

We have prepared new documents which have been approved by the Board. Now, we need all members of Plymouth Rotary to agree so we can then adopt those documents as our legal documents for conducting Club business.

Please log into My ClubRunner and access Documents. Then scroll down to see three documents for review:

    Constitution – FINAL
    By Laws  6-23-20
    Schedule of Charges

Please review and “vote” your approval or disapproval by emailing Steve Beachler at Wicket2885@gmail.com.  We will keep the voting open until August 15th.  If approved, the old documents will be removed.  If you have questions about these documents, contact Steve.

Rotary Project:

Some years ago the Club’s Annual Fundraiser was Duck on Parade. It was held at the Hilde Performance Center following Plymouth on Parade. Numbered plastic Ducks would be sent down a wood sluice into the pond, then two Rotarians in a small row boat would “fish” them out of the pond in random order to determine prize winners from those who had “leased” a duck/s for the Duck Race.

When we gave up the Duck promotion for the similar basketball lottery plan we now use, we had to find a place to store the large wooden sluice and Peter Bartling came to the rescue.  He owns a steel building he acquired when he purchased a lake cabin some years ago, and offered to have us store the sluice there for possible future use.

We now want to dismantle the sluice and recover the lumber, allowing Peter to reclaim the space used.

OPPORTUNITY
(1) Do any of you know of some worthy non-profit which might have need for some free lumber?  That would be a good use of the reclaimed lumber, mostly 2 by 4’s and plywood.  If you have suggestions, please call Steve Beachler at 763-473-3069 or 612-701-5510.

(2) We will  need  a few Rotarians and a couple of pick-up trucks to travel to Peter’s cabin on a date yet to be selected, to dismantle the lumber and bring it back to Plymouth, hopefully to donate the material to some deserving non-profit.  Probably would be a half-day outing on a weekend yet to be selected.

Rotary in Action: One of our iPad tablet recipients, The Mission Nursing Home in Plymouth, needs sport type shoes, either lace up or slip-on with rubber soles.  New or gently used, men's shoes.  Please no dress shoes or boots.  Mission would enjoy receiving books, too. Mystery stories, books, magazines and other reading materials would be appreciated.  If you are able to help, please contact member, Carol Parrish at cjparrish1029@msn.com or 952-334-5417

Strength in numbers!  Plymouth MN Rotary is working with Rotary Club of Orono and City of Lakes Minneapolis Rotary on two projects...the improvements at Maple Plain's Veterans Memorial Park and the expansion of an outdoor play and music park for children and families at Crescent Cove in Brooklyn Center.  Pictured is an artist's rendition of the Maple Plain park and the architect design for Crescent Cove.

Heart Safe Plymouth has help train folks to properly use hands-only CPR and AED, automated external defibrillator, for several years.  Sessions scheduled in April and May were cancelled, but it is our hope we can resume public and business sessions this fall. We will update.

Thank you to the club members Russ Carlson, Don Weber, Norm Okerstrom, Steve Marti and Steve Beachler who have coordinated this work.  Plymouth MN Rotary is proud to support.

Our Brewfest fundraiser that raises funds for Heart Safe is looking ahead for 2021.

Quarterly club invoices are emailed.  Please review and submit payment to the club's P.O. box address. If you have questions, please reply on the email or call a board member for assistance.
